This year, we are proudly supporting the Indigenous Marathon Foundation (IMF) – a health promotion charity established in 2013 by world marathon champion and 1983 Australian of the Year Robert de Castella AO MBE.
The Indigenous Marathon Project, the flagship program of IMF, annually selects a squad of 12 young Indigenous Australians, aged 18-30, to train for the world’s most iconic running event, the New York City Marathon. By the time they cross the finish line, their lives have changed forever.
IMP showcases and celebrates our Indigenous culture and people in a powerful way, creating inspirational role models and heroes, who come back from New York inspired, as qualified coaches and fitness leaders, and with a purpose to take others on a journey of self-empowerment.
Another program run by IMF is Deadly Runners – a free, local, grass-roots group for people starting out on their running/walking journey. The latest Deadly Runners group has recently started up in Sandgate, giving the Sandgate Sunset Run a perfect local link to the charity. We share the same community spirit and values, and thank our participants and supporters for getting behind IMF in 2018!
This year, we are proud to be supporting Hummingbird House, located on the north side of Brisbane.
Hummingbird House is Queensland’s only children’s hospice. It provides short break stays, family wellbeing services, creative therapies, and care at the end of life, for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Hummingbird House is a place where kids can be kids, families can reconnect, and precious memories can be created.
In 2016, we partnered with local charity, “Share the Dignity“, who provide sanitary items to women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
We took donations of sanitary items on the night of the Sandgate Sunset Run and also made a generous cash donation of $5000 to this wonderful charity.
Thankyou to all participants and volunteers who helped make a difference to the lives of many women through this donation!
In 2015, we supported local breast cancer charity, Be Uplifted Inc.
Be Uplifted is a unique breast cancer charity that seeks to improve the lives of women and their families experiencing difficulty or disadvantage as a consequence of breast cancer. We provide funds enabling them to access services and programs, pay bills, and receive goods or assistance to alleviate that difficulty or disadvantage.
In 2014 we supported SANDBAG (Sandgate and Bracken Ridge Action Group). SANDBAG runs programs which respond to people who are facing challenges in their lives such as:
- domestic violence
- social isolation
- mental health
- crisis connected with health issues
We are proud to continue to support SANDBAG with employment opportunities at our events for the SEED team.
